How it works
One service exports a calendar link and the other imports it. Sending information in the opposite direction usually requires the corresponding second link. The importing service retrieves updates using its own process. The standard defines a data format, rather than one refresh interval for every application. Check the unit mapping, direction of the connection and most recent update.
A property example
Suppose an apartment receives a booking for 10–13 August. A connected calendar can display the relevant period as unavailable after retrieving the update. That does not establish that the price, payment or guest messages were transferred. A useful connection check also follows a date change or cancellation, using the instructions of the services involved. This makes the actual connection behaviour clear before you rely on it for daily availability management.
Why it matters
When an apartment is listed on several platforms, a booked period may need to be blocked in several calendars. A calendar connection reduces repeated date entry. Understanding its scope helps you decide whether your requirement is simply to share blocked dates or also to distribute prices, restrictions and reservation details.
Common misunderstanding
Connected does not mean full API functionality or simultaneous updates everywhere. Services may also treat manually blocked dates differently. iCal helps coordinate availability, but the existence of a calendar link is not a guarantee against double bookings. Always evaluate the actual connection and its behaviour.
