Example: different names for one apartment
In the PMS, a unit is called Apartment 2; on the channel, it appears as Apartment with Balcony. Correct mapping follows the actual accommodation, not the similarity of its name. When a second apartment is added, check whether the channel represents it separately or as another unit within the same room type. Increasing a quantity without checking that distinction can change what is being sold.
Two names. One physical unit.
- In the channel
- Sea View Apartment
- In the PMS
- Apartment A2
Why an active connection is not enough
A connection allows information to travel; mapping determines where it belongs. If a studio is linked to the family-apartment listing, a technically successful update may affect the wrong product. The result can be an incorrect price, availability count or reservation assignment. Mapping is therefore about identifying the right accommodation and offer, not merely establishing that two systems can communicate.
What needs to be compared
Compare the property or account, unique accommodation identifier, room type and actual quantity. Where rate plans are involved, also review the selling options being connected. Names help people navigate but may differ between systems. Recording the correspondence and checking prices, restrictions and availability before activation makes the setup easier to understand and investigate later, particularly when several properties have similarly named rooms.
Mapping needs maintenance
Mapping does not create extra capacity or simply translate room names. It also needs attention beyond the initial connection. New room types, new plans or structural changes on a channel may require another review. A reservation arriving correctly does not by itself prove that every price and restriction is being updated against the right item in the other direction.
